One hundred students were asked if they like rock-and-roll music or classical music. The results were that 5 students like neither, 85 like rock-and-roll, and 23 like classical. How many students like both? One hundred students were asked if they like rock-and-roll music or classical music. The results were that 5 s
this is a vector diagram question in statistics - eeew!!

well all of the numbers should add to 100. So there should be four categories, just classical, just rock and roll, both and neither.

Well immediately exclude neither because this is a mutually exclusive event - it affects none of the others and in your vector diagram it will be put into the empty box away from the circles.

100-5 = 95

This leaves you with 85 + 23. As you can see 85 + 23 does not equal 95, it equals 108.

108 - 95 = 13

This means that there is an excess of 13, so 13 students must like both as the numbers in each sector of the vector diagram must add to the number of people asked. One hundred students were asked if they like rock-and-roll music or classical music. The results were that 5 s
13 students because 5 students didnt like any, so that means that 95 liked something.

then, 85 liked rocknroll, and 23 liked classical

85+23=108.

so 108-95 (which is the number if students who liked something) equals 13
