What year did Rock and Roll get started?

Alan Freed coined the term but it was already going by then and usually termed as 'race records' by the white mainstream.

The first rock and roll record has been argued about since the 50s in the same way as first 60s Psychedelic record or first 70s punk record. Rocket 88 (1951) by The Kings Of Rhythm is as good a contender as any - Sam Phillips thinks so anyway.|||1956|||There's no exact year. The early 50s is about as close as you can get.|||I dont Know But im doing a report on Wood stock and that was alot of rock and roll there.|||Around the time that slavery started|||The very first band to feature the now-standard (for rock) two guitar, bass, and drum set-up was Buddy Holly and the Crickets. They were together from 56-59.|||It is generally accepted as July 5th, 1954.

The day that Elvis recorded "That's All Right, (Mama)."

I personally believe that it can be traced to the song

"Hearts of Stone" recorded at least a couple years before.

It had the first recorded back beat in it.
