Where do you think the roots of Rock and Roll are located?

"Rhythm and Blues" groups from the 30's to the 50's that influenced The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in England. IMO Buddy Holly and The Crickets, Rock'a'Billy hits were the basis for most of the Rock'n'Roll generated in the early 60's in the United States with The Beatles, The Stones and The Kinks, "British Rock" thrown in for more influence in the mid 60's. You can't leave out Elvis and his powerful influence on alot of early groups as well. For me the first really strong rock influences were Eric Clapton in CREAM and Jimmy Page in LED ZEPPELIN. Clapton and Page were both almost totally influenced by black blues musicians like Robert Johnson from the 1930's..|||Well it's derived from blues...Progressed in 1940's and mostly 50's...

Ike Turner, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, Bo Diddley...Just to name a few

One influential subgenre is Rockabilly...It was technically the first time young people were getting into something so "rebellious" and "colored". It was looked down upon that time mostly because of those reasons...

Most people saw rock n roll as a "black" thing, and when whites were starting to get into it they got very mad and were against it, but most of their children were secretly in love with that music...

Elvis was important because he was looked at as a very controversial man...He was very good looking, and the way he danced and moved was shun upon because of the sexual appeal it created...

Just a little insight...|||Jazz, blues, and early country evolved in to early R %26amp; B, which evolved into rock. Basically it came out of a combination of the African American music genres of the late 40's and early 50's. Than Elvis stole it and made it popular with the main steam American youth. ||| i would say it is mostly from classical but there is almost always another genre thrown in like blues.

also the root of all music resides in classical and folk music don't believe me listen to some classical then to some mock 15th folk music such as corvus corax and there is a big difference|||in elvis's scalp.

well, technically, rock and roll...yes, the real non poser rock 'n roll *says rock 'n roll in an ozzy like british accent* comes from blues. and blues came as a result of black people being enslaved by white people in the states back then.|||waay back. the blues gave a real off to it, even before that, all forms of music. i did a project on it a few years back actually. heehee.|||In classical music, because it came before every other type of music.|||Beatles

BB King

Elvis

Rolling Stones

Led Zeppelin

Doors

Pink Floyd|||Robert Johnson was our daddy. He created us. Look him up on Wiki.|||In Memphis since Elvis was born there, long live the King!|||The Blues.
