Do you agree with this quote from Bob Dylan about who he thinks the greatest rock and roll band is?

Bob Dylan:

"The Rolling Stones are truly the greatest rock and roll band in the world and always will be. The last too. Everything that came after them, metal, rap, punk, new wave, pop-rock, you name it .... you can trace it all back to the Rolling Stones. They were the first and the last and no one's ever done it better."|||I whole-heartedly agree with Dylan. The Stones are the best. They have been on top of the rock and roll genre for almost 50 years! Their run has been incredible and there will never be another band like that again. Just 2 years ago, they played in front of 1.5 million people in Brazil.... no other band can play in front of that many people 43 years after forming... it's insane.|||I must find email Avril Lavigne

|||I have great respect for Dylan but he sometimes thinks too highly of his opinions. I agree that the Stones are great but there are bands and musicians who have had a much higher influence. As for the tracing everything back to them, it seems to me a little exaggerated. I wouldn't even think of tracing music back to the Stones before thinking of Louis Armstrong, Elvis or The Beatles.

Then again, Bob Dylan is right in his own way, it's just opinion whether he (or anyone) thinks it's fact or not.

I'm sure this is just his way of saying "I love the Rolling Stones" in the way that makes Dylan who he is. I bet if he really had to have a valid argument he would dig deeper and put fact and reason into what he says. (or he could just say what he wants because he's Bob Dylan)|||Nothing against Dylan, but I have to disagree--the Rolling Stones aren't even close to being the greatest band of all time (though it mainly is a matter of opinion). The Beatles certainly did far more for music--not just rock, but blues, jazz and country too--than the Rolling Stones ever have. Because of that, I'd say that the Beatles were the bet band of all time, technically. Of course, the Beatles surely aren't my favorite artist or my favorite rock artist for that matter.

Think about it though...the Beatles introduced sitar into western music then, shortly after, the Rolling Stones used sitar in a song too. Plus, I'd have to say that the Rolling Stones aren't nearly as good as they're made out to be (no offense meant--I've just never been much of a fan of them).|||I respectfully disagree with Dylan. The Beatles are the greatest rock and roll band!! The Rolling Stones more than likely would never be what they are if it was not for The Beatles help and influence. The Rollings Stones did not change the sound of rock music, how rock music was produced and did not have the impact on a entire generation like The Beatles achieved. Without The Beatles who knows what rock music would be like these days.|||I love Bob Dylan, and I love the Rolling Stones. But I do think that it is hard to determine what the "best" band, (or the "best anything" for that matter), you can make an argument for the Rolling Stones, and a number of their contemporaries, (The Beatles come to mind, as their chief counterpart), but, in the end, not all will agree, so what is the point of fighting over who was better, instead, lets just try to enjoy them all, acknowledge their influences, and who influenced them. Musicians, like all of us, are inspired by competition, but it should be positive competition, inspired to make themselves better, not knock their rivals down.

I love Dylan, The Beatles, and The Stones, they were all at the top of their game, and there's no need to knock one down at the expense of trying to make another look better. Enjoy the music, don't compete over it.|||One thing you have to understand about Dylan is that he has basically said the same thing about everyone under the sun. Just off the top of my head, I can think of almost identical quotes that Bob has made about Elvis, Hendrix, Little Richard, and Johnny Cash. I've heard that he does that as kind of an inside joke because he dislikes inane interviews.

As far as the Stones go.... Musically they only reflected their time, but they essentially created the Rock Culture singlehandedly. And omg, people, dont even get me started on the Beatles: Waaaay overrated.|||I think he is wrong. Chuck Berry is the first traceable person of rock and roll, and Chuck Berry is in his 90's and still going live!|||i like the rolling stones. but personally i prefer the beatles and i think they were better|||The Beatles. No contest.|||I strongly disagree i think the Beatles were WAY better and had a big influence on music|||dylan speaks the truth
